Development on Snap Pixy Selfie Drone Stopped

Back in April, Snap launched the Pixy, which is a small drone used for capturing selfies. Sadly, development is now being stopped, according to WSJ.

The Pixy was cool because it was autonomous. It had two cameras. One facing forward to capture pictures and video of you, and a camera facing down so that it can see the ground and hold the drone in place, similar to how the Tello drone works.

There were different modes that you could set, and when it’s ready to launch you just push a button and off it goes while capturing video and pictures of you.

The Superior Slide and Negative to Digital Picture Converter

If you search around your loft or basement for long enough, you’ll probably come across some old slides and negatives from pictures you took before digital cameras took off. These pictures often get damaged over time and if left out in sunlight, they also fade away gradually and lose colour.

The “Superior Slide and Negative to Digital Picture Converter” is a device that is able to capture images from negatives and slides at a resolution of 14 megapixels.

JackPod Smartphone Tripod Mount

The JackPod is another great idea that I just came across on Kickstarter. It is a device that you plug in to the 3.5mm headphone jack on your smartphone and use that as a mounting point for a tripod.

The details show that it can mount any smartphone that uses any case safely on to a tripod so you can get steadier shots.

Luxi Incident Light Meter for iPhone is a Cheaper Alternative

Taking picture on a DSLR can be challenging to some as there are a number of settings that need to be taken in to account such as shutter speed, ISO and aperture all of which need to be balanced to get just the right amount of light to the sensor without making the shutter open so long that you get blurry images. Under or over exposed images are also too easy to create if settings are not correct for the environment around you.

A traditional way of working with this challenge is either by experience gained over a number of years, or by using an expensive light meter that can detect the light around you and provide the settings you need.

To lower the cost of light meters, one company is launching a device called Luxi that attaches to the front facing camera on your iPhone. It is compatible with the iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5 and fits snugly over the camera. You then fire up an app and can find the best settings for the current lighting available.
