YouTube Video Player Updated

Over the past couple of weeks, Google [GOOG] has slowly rolled out a new video player on YouTube. The new video player has a different look and also brings a few handy features to give more in depth analysis of the video being watched.

The layout is different in that the red progress bar is now slightly transparent and runs just under the video. Below that is a section where the play button, volume control and other buttons can be found.

New features also include the ability to right click on the video which pops up a menu where you can select various options such as a broadband speed test, video details, debug information and more. [Read more…]

Apple iPad 3G Jailbreak

After being launched just a few hours, the Apple iPad 3G has been jailbroke. The iPad 3G jailbreak comes from MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team who managed to use spirit that jailbroke the iPad WiFi almost a month ago.

The image above shows the iPad 3G with the Cydia app which indicates the jailbreak was successful. Unfortunately the spirit jailbreak is not ready, but we expect that it isn’t to far away from being launched, so get preparing now.

One thing that is recommended is grabbing the SHSH Blobs for which ever device you have so that you have a backup of the signature just in case you need to restore the firmware. [Read more…]

Apple iPad 3G Teardown

iFixit have done a teardown of the Apple iPad 3G that started shipping yesterday. Some interesting things found within included 5 antennas for various reception. The blackbar of course which we have seen before on the pictures and the micro SIM slot tucked in the side of the iPad.

The Apple iPad 3G is unlocked and works on UMTS/HSDPA on 850, 1900, and 2100 MHz and GSM/EDGE on 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz. This makes it compatible with AT&T as well as T-Mobile on EDGE.

The five antennas include two for handling cell reception. One of them attaches to the black RF bar on the top of the iPad while the other attaches to the frame of the LCD screen. The third antenna is for the GPS unit and the fourth and fifth are for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. [Read more…]
