Viewsonic Android Tablet Announced

Viewsonic has announced a new tablet called the ViewPad 7. The ViewPad 7 is an Android 2.2 based tablet that has a seven inch screen, two digital cameras as well as plenty of connectivity.

For connectivity, it has Wireless, Bluetooth and 3G built in. The cameras are 3 megapixels for the rear and 0.3 megapixels for the front.

For storage it takes a micro SD card. GPS is also built in. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Update Coming September

For those of you in the UK, an interesting tweet was sent out that indicates an X10 Android 2.1 update will be arriving at the end of September.

The tweet came from Sony Ericsson UK and says…

@KOR_9S We can only confirm that the upgrade to Android 2.1 is due for release before the end of September this year. We hope this helps.

Google Buys Social Deck the Social Games Developer

Google [GOOG] has purchased a social games developer called Social Deck. Social Deck is a company that makes games for both mobile and smartphones which indicates Google are moving in to games development.

The games built by Social Desk are generally multiplayer based that work across networks. Popular devices developed for include the iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. [Read more…]

Canon Develop Large Ultra-High Sensitivity CMOS Sensor

Canon has announced that it has developed a new CMOS image sensor that boasts the record of being the largest in the world. The large CMOS sensor provides ultra-high sensitivity allowing it to be used in darker situations.

The image sensor measures 202mm x 205mm and thanks to it’s size, it allows more light to be gathered when capturing an image. The sensitivity of it allows for images to be captured with one one-hundredth the amount of light that a regular DSLR camera would use. [Read more…]

DROID X Users who Installed Leaked 2.2 Update get no Official Updates

For those of you who updated to the leaked Motorola DROID X Android 2.2 update, bad news is in store as you wont be able to install the official update when it arrives in a few weeks time.

Motorola has announced that those who manually installed the leaked ROM will be cut out from the official upgrade path. They will provide no way to update to the latest version.

This is quite a big contrast when compared to the HTC EVO 4G which HTC did it’s best to create a patch that would fix the problem of upgrading early. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy Tab Android Tablet Hitting Verizon

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is heading to Verizon [VZ] in the US. The device is listed as featuring a CDMA radio which yesterday when spotted, suggested that it could land on Verizon or Sprint [S].

Since yesterday, details have leaked confirming that the Samsung Tablet would hit Verizon. The photo showing this comes thanks to BGR who received an image from a tipster that showed the Verizon inventory system. [Read more…]

Google Launch Gmail Priority Inbox

Google [GOOG] has launched a new feature in Gmail called Gmail Priority Inbox. The new service uses a system that learns which emails are most important to you and prioritises them based on how you use your email.

When emails arrive at Gmail, they are first scanned for spam and then discarded. If they pass successfully through the filter, Google then determines if the email is a priority or not and organises them appropriately.

The system learns what emails you read first, what you reply to and how you read your email. By learning what you do, it can then promote an email to a priority status so that you can sort through the most important emails first. [Read more…]

HTC Desire Android 2.2 Update for Orange UK Delayed

Orange in the UK has delayed the launch of the HTC Desire Android 2.2 update. The over the air (OTA) update was scheduled for sometime around now although the delays are pushing it back a few weeks, perhaps to the middle of September.

Reasons for delays from carriers usually revolve around the small customisations that they need to make to rebrand Android with Orange features although it isn’t clear in this case the reasons for the delays. [Read more…]

Hotmail to get Active Sync Support

Hotmail is set to get an update either today, or sometime this week that will bring IMAP to the web based email service.

What this will do is give users the ability to sync up in Outlook with what’s in a hotmail account. This sync will work both ways meaning that any other emails that you have in Outlook could be uploaded to Hotmail and vice versa.

The other sync features work when you send emails or move them around on either the web based version, phone version of in Outlook. Each of them will be able to keep in sync with each other giving you the ability to manage your email from any device you connect via IMAP with. [Read more…]

LG 31 Inch OLED hits IFA

LG is set to reveal a larger OLED display at IFA this year. This time around the screen will measure 31 inches and yet, have a thickness of just 0.11 inches.

As well as showing off an ultra thin and relatively large OLED screen at IFA, they will also be showing a slightly thicker 0.35 inch LCD screen that is available to buy now. [Read more…]

Nintendo DSi and DSi XL Dropping in Price on September 12

Nintendo has announced that it will be dropping the price of both the Nintendo DSi and the DSi XL over in the US beginning September 12.

Prices will drop down to $149.99 for the DSi and $169.99 for the DSi XL. Price drops over in the UK and Japan have happened already as well as a price drop in Australia a number of months ago.

It seems like the prices are dropping in preparing for the Nintendo 3DS to arrive which could be towards the end of this year or early next year. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Update Leaked

It seems like a real build of Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S has been leaked online. The screen shot above is supposedly taken from a Galaxy S device and shows that it is running Android 2.2 (which also is easy to fake mind you).

A number of smartphones recently have had Android 2.2 builds leaked with all of them being Beta builds with a few things broken. You might want to take this in to consideration if deciding to test the leaked build. [Read more…]
