Free iPad 16GB WiFi + 3G Model on 24 Month Softbank Contract

The Softbank carrier in Japan has pushed out a subsidized iPad 16GB WiFi + 3G deal that allows folk to pick the iPad up for free. The deal does require you sign up for a 24 month contract and pay out ¥4,725 per month which converts to about $56 at todays exchange rate. [Read more…]

Cowon 3D Media Player Released – Glasses Free

Cowon has released a new portable media player called the Cowon 3D. As the 3D in the name suggests, the media player is capable of displaying 3D content. What makes this one a little more unique is that the 3D effect is glasses free.

The device runs Windows CE 6.0 and has a 4.8 inch 800 x 400 widescreen display. The 3D media player is capable of playing back full 1080p content via the HDMI output. As for storage capacity on this device, it has 64GB. [Read more…]

Nook Color Rooted – Plays Angry Birds

The guys over at XDA Developers have managed to root the Nook Color. By doing this, they managed to essentially create a $250 Android tablet.

Two Kinects Connected For Even Better 3D

Back in the middle of November we posted details of a project built by Youtube user okreylos. The first video use a Microsoft Kinect connected up to a computer that could read the video stream from the camera as well as depth details. Those details could then be made in to a real-time 3D model that could be rotated around. The main problem with using just the 1 Kinect was that the back of the model was not there.

This latest project from the same guy now puts two Kinects together so that more of the scene can be captured in to a 3D model. The results, although not the best visual quality, actually work very well with three sides of a box now being tracked. [Read more…]

iOS 4.3 Release Date Could Be Early 2011

A rumored iOS 4.3 release date was set for sometime in December. However, it appears that this will not happen this year, but instead will now be early 2011.

The iOS 4.3 update was believed to bring subscriptions to the iPhone and iPad allowing news papers such as The Daily from News Corp to set up an auto-recurring subscription rather than relying on the user to re-purchase each and every week or month that the magazines are released. [Read more…]

Symbian Foundation to Take Source Code Offline on Dec 17

PCWorld is reporting today that the Symbian Foundation will be taking the Symbian mobile operating system off line on December 17th. After that, the only way to get a copy of the software will be to pay to have a physical media version shipped. Full details of that process will be detailed on the Symbian website found here. Gran Turismo 5 Hits Number 1 in UK Games Chart

Gran Turismo 5 has landed at the top of the charts in the UK for game sales across all formats (week ending November 27).

With its sales, GT5 has become the sixth largest PS3 launch title to date in this region. The sales of the game increased 6 percent when compared to the launch of Gran Turismo 5 back in 2005.

Android Magazine iPhone App Banned by Apple

Apple [AAPL] recently published its app store submission guidelines that allowed developers to see exactly what the rules are to get an app published in the app store.

We hear that Apple has banned a new app from appearing in the app store. The app is an Android Magazine from a Danish publisher. The app basically covered all things Android. It appears on the surface that Apple didn’t approve. [Read more…]

Early Reports Indicate Android Outsells Windows Phone 7 15:1

Some reports from a retailer in the UK indicate that Windows Phone 7 sales have been disappointingly slow accounting for just three percent of the companies sales.

The figure reveals that Android devices are selling at about 15:1 compare to WP7 and when compared to Symbian^3, that ratio is 3:1 in favor of Symbian^3 on the one handset. [Read more…]

Microsoft [MSFT] has filed a patent that can create bumps our dips on a touchscreen.

The system uses a light-induced layer of shape-memory polymer that when UV is shined on to it, the surface can protrude, dent in or go soft or hard. [Read more…]

The Hobbit To Be Shot with 30 RED Epic Cameras

The Hobbit is about to start filming. We learn today that Peter Jackson has chosen to use 30 EPIC Digital Cameras from the RED Digital Cinema company.

The EPIC has a 5K resolution and is capable of capturing up to 120 frames per second. A HDRx mode is included that gives the highest dynamic range of any cinema camera ever made. [Read more…]
