Flickr Adds Geofences for Smart Privacy Settings

Flickr has introduced a new privacy feature that uses Geofencing to set photo viewing permissions of your uploaded snapshots. What a Geofence does is allow you to set a location on a map and then specify who can view photos that were captured in that particular location. An example used in the image below shows Home and School. For pictures captured in those two areas (with a 100m radius as an example), only certain friends and family could see those pictures which might be classed as more private.

Amazon Tablet to Launch in October – Rumour

A report today from Digitimes is hinting that Amazon could be launching one of its tablets sometime in October this year. At the moment it is believed that two Amazon Tablets will launch with one having a 7 inch screen and the other having a 10.1 inch screen. The 7 inch tablet is the one that is rumoured to be arriving in October with the 10.1 inch model launching early next year.

Samsung Galaxy S 2 Going to Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy II is headed to the US. Rather than launching the standard Galaxy S II, variants will arrive on each network which includes T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. The device is not yet coming to Verizon.

LG Thrill 4G Going to AT&T

AT&T is launching the LG Thrill 4G on to its network in the next few days. The release date is September 4th. The LG Thrill 4G is the LG Optimus 3D but branded for the AT&T network.

White Samsung Galaxy 2 Arrives in the UK

The white version of the Samsung Galaxy S 2 has arrived in the UK. The announcement was made today by Samsung who said that starting today (August 31 2011), the new white version will be available. The device is exactly the same as the black Galaxy S2 with the only difference being the colour of it.

Google Gives Free Calls Home for US Service Members

Google has made changes to Gmail calling that allows those in the US Military to get free phone calls back to the US from where they currently serve. To get access requires that you are using a .mil email address.

HP to Build More TouchPads

HP has announced that it will build more TouchPad tablets. Before you start to think that they have changed their minds on shutting the tablet business down, we will warn you that this will be a final run.

Before I share, let me first say thank you for enthusiasm for this product. Since we announced the price drop, the number of inquiries about the product and the speed at which it disappeared from inventory has been stunning. I think it’s safe to say we were pleasantly surprised by the response.

Firefox for Tablets Design Revealed

Ian Barlow of Mozilla has provided a quick glimpse of what Firefox for Tablets will look like when it launches. When used on a smartphone the company tried to hide away a lot of the navigation to keep as much of the screen available for the web page you are viewing. Due to tablets having a larger screen, this has allowed the company to use some of that space for navigational purposes.

The Motorola Defy+ is the next update to the original Motorola Defy. The + adds a few new features to the popular smartphone. The Defy+ was first announced when Google announced the acquisition of Motorola.

QuickOffice for HP TouchPad Launched

QuickOffice for the HP TouchPad has received an update. The new version allows Microsort Word and Excel spreadsheets to be edited. Prior to this update all documents were read only which was an original disappointment with the software.

Wacom Inkling Announced

Wacom has announced Inkling. The device allows you to draw with a pen and when done you can transfer the drawing to a computer to edit the image. There are several things that make this device stand out. Lets start with the pen. The pen has a ball point tip that you can draw on any type of paper with. The digital pen also can sense 1024 levels of pressure which makes the captured drawing even more realistic. Each pressure is calculated when transferred to give the drawing the correct line weights. When you have finished drawing, the data is sent to a PC or Mac in Vector format which means you can then easily edit each line on the page as much as you like.
