Adobe Drops Flash Player for Mobile and Switches to HTML5

The report from earlier today about Adobe killing Flash for mobile has now been made official by Adobe. The company is stopping development and support for Flash on mobile although it will continue to support it on the PC.

Instead, the new focus will be to work on HTML5 which has been considered as the “best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms.”.

Although support for Flash will be stopped on mobile, Adobe will still be supporting AIR which is the program used to convert flash to apps. The software packages the flash content in to a mobile app which can be installed on a device.

Security and bug fixes will continue to be made and we also hear that Flash Player 11.1 for Android and for the Playbook will still be released.
