Apple 27 Inch LED Cinema Display Announced

Apple [AAPL] has announced a new 27 inch Cinema Display today. The new display is LED based, measures 27 inches and has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.

The new screen size makes it 60 percent larger than the 24 inch model. Features built in include an iSight video camera, a microphone, speakers and a USB 2.0 hub that is powered.

The screen uses a universal MagSafe connector. The large screen has been designed as a companion to MacBook family or Mac Desktops to be used as a primary or secondary screen. Price wise, it costs $999.

“With built-in MagSafe charging, iSight camera, speakers, and USB ports, the LED Cinema Display is ideal for MacBook and MacBook Pro users,”said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With its massive 2560 x 1440 resolution, the new 27-inch LED Cinema Display is a perfect fit with our powerful new Mac Pro, and it gives iMac users an easy way to double their screen real estate.”

The screen uses edge to edge glass and has an aspect ratio of 16:9. The stand is aluminium making the whole screen a piece of glass sat on the stand. Just like the iPad, the Cinema Display also uses IPS technology to provide a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees.

The new Apple 27 inch Cinema Display is launching in September and will be available on the Apple store.
