New Screen has Pixels Eight Times Smaller than Retina Display

When Apple [AAPL] launched the iPhone 4, it came with the retina display. The retina display had a higher pixel density squashing more pixels in to an inch than any other mobile screen. The results are that individual pixels cannot be distinguished between when holding the phone at about a foot or more from the eye.

The pixel density could be smashed though as researchers have created a screen that has eight times the pixel density of the retina display. The researchers are based at the University of Michigan who created the screen with nanometer-thin sheets of metal that are named nanresonators. [Read more…]

LG 31 Inch OLED hits IFA

LG is set to reveal a larger OLED display at IFA this year. This time around the screen will measure 31 inches and yet, have a thickness of just 0.11 inches.

As well as showing off an ultra thin and relatively large OLED screen at IFA, they will also be showing a slightly thicker 0.35 inch LCD screen that is available to buy now. [Read more…]

Toshiba 3DTV – Glasses Free – Launching Q4

Toshiba is rumoured to be creating three new glasses free 3DTV’s that will be ready for launch quarter 4 of this year.

Price wise, they are expected to cost several thousand dollars each. The 3DTV’s work with what is called a parallax technique that is capable of sending out different images to each eye to give a 3D effect. [Read more…]

Token Multitouch Surface for DJing

Check out the video below to see what the future of DJing could all be about.

The display is called the Token and it accepts multitouch inputs on a surface designed for DJ’s to use. The system works with a sheet of glass and a rear mounted projector. When the glass it touched, the input is detected and fed back to the computer to make the necessary changes to the video stream and to the audio stream that plays the music. [Read more…]

Sharp 3D Smartphone Launching this Year

Sharp looks set to be launching a 3D smartphone that requires no special 3D glasses to be used to see the effect. The screen is believed to work in a similar way to how the Nintendo 3DS screen works in that you need to look at it head on to get the full depth of the 3D screen.

Sharp is believed to be launching the 3D smartphone before the end of this year. As well as having a 3D screen it is also believed a 3D camera will be installed on the device allowing you to capture in 3D.

As for the operating system, it isn’t known if Sharp will use it’s own software or if it will use something like Google Android. [Read more…]

Mitsubishi 75 inch 3D Full HD TV

Mitsubishi is launching a new 3D TV called the 75-LT1. The TV it’s self has a massive 75 inch screen that can display full HD at 1080p (1920 x 1080) and is capable of showing 3D in a side-by-side format.

It has a BS.110/CS digital TV tuner built in along with five HDMI inputs and a HDMI output. A D-Sub port can be found along with three S-Video ports. [Read more…]

Hitachi Gesture Based Interface Unveiled

Hitachi is showing off it’s gesture-based interface. We have seen similar devices before, but it’s always good to see steps bringing technology closer to the screens seen on Minority Report.

Hitachi will be using the technology on digital signage that will allow users to integrate more with what it on display without having to touch the screen. As well as signage, the product could be used in the medical field to enable doctors to interact with screens without touching them. [Read more…]

M1 Pico Projector Announced by AAXA

AAXA has created a new Pico Projector called the M1 limited. The M1 limited is said to have the highest brightness of any pico projector currently built by AAXA technologies. The device has a 1000:1 contrast ratio with a resolution in the SVGA range of 800 x 600 pixels.

The brightness is rated at 75 ANSI lumens. White LED lamps are the light source and have a life span of about 15,000 hours before they die.

Screen size wise, the LED’s and lens are capable of projecting an image of up to 100 inches in size although at a 75 lumens rating, it will need to be relatively dark in the room to comfortably see a picture that size. [Read more…]

Apple 27 Inch LED Cinema Display Announced

Apple [AAPL] has announced a new 27 inch Cinema Display today. The new display is LED based, measures 27 inches and has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.

The new screen size makes it 60 percent larger than the 24 inch model. Features built in include an iSight video camera, a microphone, speakers and a USB 2.0 hub that is powered.

The screen uses a universal MagSafe connector. The large screen has been designed as a companion to MacBook family or Mac Desktops to be used as a primary or secondary screen. Price wise, it costs $999. [Read more…]

HTC Super LCD Display to Be Used on Some Smartphones

HTC has announced that Super LCD (SLCD for short) will be added to it’s portfolio of smartphones. Two particular smartphones that will start using the new screen technology include the Nexus One and the HTC Desire later this summer.

The SLCD display offers an exceptional natural balanced colour, clear contrast, broad viewing angles and improved power efficiency.

“HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.”

Sony to Demo 360 Degree Autostereoscopic Display at Siggraph

Back in October last year, Sony showed off a new display that was capable of 360 degree 3D image. A similar prototype is going on display at Siggraph next week that also has interaction with users. Those viewing the 3D autostereoscopic display can use gestures to move the image around.

Apple Touchscreen Spotted

Earlier today we wrote about a concept iPod shuffle that showed an iPhone 4 inspired glass front and back with a metal band around the edges. A small screen has been spotted that shows that the concept might be not that far off the mark.

The Apple [AAPL] touchscreen measures just 3cm by 3cm making it quite small. The information apparently comes from someone who deals with manufacturing Apple products and could indicate a small screen device is going to be launched soon.
