Cydia App Bring HDR to iPhone 3G and 3GS

The iOS 4.1 download brings HDR photography to iPhone 4 users only.

HDR works on the iPhone 4 by capturing three photos with slightly different exposure settings. The pictures are then merged together to bring out the dark spots and light spots on a picture so that all details are made visible.

Unfortunately for iPhone 3G and 3GS users, you don’t get access to this as Apple [AAPL] has restricted HDR to the iPhone 4 only. There is good news though…

Thanks to developers, a modification for jailbroken iPhone’s allows HDR to run on the 3G and 3GS. It is accomplished in a similar way to how multitasking and wallpapers are enabled.

An application will soon be launching on Cydia that you can download to enable it. We’ll let you know when it goes live.
