Halo out of reach with disc read error

There is nothing quite as bad as finally receiving your very own copy a game that you’ve been waiting for ages to get your hands on, only then to find it doesn’t even work.

With over $200 million worth of copies of the last instalment of the Halo series, this has certainly made its mark in gaming history. But this, unfortunately, has been marred by many users being unable to play their copy of Halo: Reach due to a disc read error. Forums dotted all over gaming websites (including Bungie as well) have been growing and growing with rather disgruntled gamers. Yet still, its been unclear as to the cause for this, though here at Gadget Venue, we think its more likely that a dodgy batch of games got out, seeing as such a huge number needed to have been produced in order to try and keep up with customer demand.

It has also been noted that copies of Halo: Reach haven’t been working on older consoles and as reported by IGN.com, the game cannot be played online in coop mode due to limitations on the new 4GB Xbox 360 slim consoles.

For myself, I had no trouble with Halo: Reach but I used to own an Xbox 360 Elite and when I got hold of Halo 3 on release day, the game kept crashing during the first cut scene. As a result of this I took the game back and promptly exchanged it for another one. But the problem didn’t go away. Nor did it go away with a third game, eventually realising it was a fault with the console itself.

A representative said…

“We are aware of a very small number of customers reporting that their copy of Halo: Reach is causing a disc read error. Those affected should contact Microsoft customer support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX for troubleshooting assistance.”

Have you had any trouble with disc read errors? What did you do about it? Let us know how you got on?

  1. After the usual red ring of death nightmare, I bought an x ox live arcade basic model (I think it is called the Jasper model) bit kept my old 20gb hard drive. Rinsed reach, but after stupidly knocking over my box when it was on its side, began to get the unreadable msg. Disc was a bit scratched, so I bought a new copy, only for the same problem to occur – beginning title cut scene played out but crashed at the end. I have just removed the hard drive and it now seems to work, as I had my profile saved onto a memory card. Hope this helps.
