iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Jailbreak Release Date Almost Here

It appears that the iPhone 4S jailbreak will be released in the next few days. The release will also be compatible with the iPad 2. The iPhone Dev Team has announced that some streamlining of the Corona A5 Jailbreak is all that is needed to be done before it launches.

The Dev Team announced that they have managed to overcome all technical hurdles and that all they need to do is streamline how the jailbreak works. We assume that means that it is easy to use, has no bugs and works well for users. The other challenge is all the varying hardware it will be installed on. They will need to make sure that it works on any configuration of compatible computer.

The Dev Team are working on a GUI to make the install simple. A command-line interface will also be included for those with a bit more expertise.

The jailbreak has certain requirements on the iPhone or iPad to run. These are that it runs iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 with (9A334 or 9A405) for the iPhone. 9A406 is also supported. For the iPad it will need to run iOS 5.0.1 9A405 to function.

For those who want to unlock it is recommended that you stay on iOS 5.0. For jailbreakers, we believe iOS 5.0.1 is the recommendation at the moment. Make sure you read the full instructions before installing anything though. As for upgrading to iOS 5.0.1, make sure you do it before 5.1 is released as it will prevent the ability to upgrade to 5.0.1 as it will suddenly become unsigned.

iPhone4S owners looking to maximize their chances of achieving an eventual software-based carrier unlock should be staying at 5.0. Everyone else should be at 5.0.1. If you’re an iPhone4S owner who already updated to 5.0.1, it’s too late to go back down to 5.0, but if you’re on 9A406 it is possible to downgrade the BB by going to the 9A405 version of 5.0.1 while the window is still open.
