iPhone 5 Likely to be Redesigned

Rumours are heating up for the iPhone 5 launch. Although the date for launch isn’t known at the moment, it will likely be sometime from June to October of 2012 depending on if Apple [AAPL] have permanently changed the yearly cycle from June to October as done with the iPhone 4S. The latter month is more likely to be the launch month to make it around 5 – 6 months after the iPad 3 launch.

What we hear today, which also comes as no surprise, is that the iPhone 5 will be redesigned. Apple tend to do this with the iPhone… think 3G/3GS and 4/4S.

Changes could possible include a larger 4 inch screen which is .5 inches larger than the screen used on all past generations. We also hear that a metal back could be used with a similar design to the iPad 2 although for the antenna it is expected that Apple will use a slightly different design in that the glass will be attached to the metal back with a plastic/rubber separating them which also will allow for the antenna to function correctly.

BGR came across the details, but as with many other Apple rumours we need to take most of them with a pinch of salt. What is almost certain is that there will be a new design. What isn’t clear is the screen size. With Apple using 3.5 inches for all iPhone models, they might decide to keep the iPhone 5 at 3.5 inches as well.
