Microsoft to ‘pass by’ Blu-ray

For a while now, Microsoft has held firm to the belief that its not all about Blu-ray but rather digital downloads instead and would rather leave the HD format all to Sony.

As reported by T3… Speaking to Xbox360Achievements, the console’s UK chief Stephen McGill said…

“Blu-ray is going to be passed by as a format. People have moved through from DVDs to digital downloads and digital streaming, so we offer full HD 1080p Blu-ray quality streaming instantly, no download, no delay. So, who needs Blu-ray?”

This comes as no surprise though when comparing games from both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Its well known that Blu-ray dvd’s are able to hold much more data than Xbox’s dvd’s, one very good example is the difference between two different copies of Final Fantasy XIII. On the Xbox, the game had to be split between multiple discs and the graphical sheen to the game also took a beating. Not so for the PS3.

Will you want to buy a game split over multiple discs? Are you even bothered by this? Is Blu-ray the way to go? Let us know what you think.
