HTC Super LCD Display to Be Used on Some Smartphones

HTC has announced that Super LCD (SLCD for short) will be added to it’s portfolio of smartphones. Two particular smartphones that will start using the new screen technology include the Nexus One and the HTC Desire later this summer.

The SLCD display offers an exceptional natural balanced colour, clear contrast, broad viewing angles and improved power efficiency.

“HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.”

This is something we have heard over recent weeks due to shortages of OLED screens. HTC also mention they will use it due to increased performance when compared to older LCD panels as well as five times better power management. SLCD is also said to have an enhanced viewing experience allowing for wider viewing angles.

Summer is just a few months away now. We suspect that when the Desire and Nexus One arrive with the new screens that some sort of marking on the box will identify what screen is inside. It will be interesting to see a side by side comparison with the same phones with the screens they currently use.
